Hello! My name is Megan Nassif and I'm a sophomore at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. I'm studying Converged Journalism and have an on-campus job as the Photographer and Social Media Coordinator for the Office of Student Engagement & Leadership Marketing Team.

I'm taking New-Media Journalism to prepare myself for my future career. As sad as it is, traditional print journalism is dying out, and many outlets are becoming digital. Whether it's hard news or pop culture coverage, the internet and social media is the future of journalism.
My blog, The Slimy Times, focuses on news happening in the Slippery Rock area. I chose this name because I feel that it makes the focus of my blog evident while playing into a popular news outlet trope.
In all honesty, my heart lies with photojournalism. I love photographing events around campus to capture the memories being made by students and faculty. Not only are they great to look at, but they can also tell a story. You know what they say; a picture is worth a thousand words. Nothing warms my heart quite like watching others connect through shared memories. As a Social Media Coordinator, many of the photos I take are posted and shared on the internet. One traditional news outlet that I admire for its photojournalism is The New York Times. Not only do they report on a variety of topics, but they pair their stories with amazing photos and graphics. They also provide news in multiple formats, including video and social media. A stand-alone digital outlet that does this well too is Slate. They cover a variety of topics, as well as those that are currently trending. Slate also offers a podcast, which is not common for most news outlets. It's organizations like these who are adapting to journalism's digital shift and setting the standard for new journalism.
